Weekly News for May 9th

This week, we will be giving each student in the class a benchmark assessment for reading. It is always great to see how far students have come as readers during second grade, and this assessment provides a snapshot of their growth. The information gained from this and other end of year assessments will be passed on to third grade teachers at the end of the school year, so they can begin thinking about the needs of each learner entering their classroom in the fall.

Each student has been given a part for our second grade fable play that will take place on Wednesday, May 25th. On that day, there will be a morning dress rehearsal and evening performance at 6pm. If you are not able to make it to the evening performance, you are welcome to attend the morning dress rehearsal. We will let you know the time of this show as soon as it is finalized. In the meantime, we will be rehearsing in the classroom, in music class, and with the second grade as a whole. We will continue to read and learn about story elements and morals of fables, as well as write our own fables. In May, our work with Tracy, the Flynn teaching artist, will be creating unique versions of some of  Aeosop's Fables and acting/dancing them out.

Last Tuesday, Recycle Rhonda, the School and Youth Outreach Coordinator for the Chittenden Solid Waste District, came to our classroom to help us get our composting worm bin started up again. Please enjoy the pictures from this event! Have a good week.
